Returning home

A New Post for After Mission Life

This is a little late getting started but it is the only way we will ever keep track of our life.

Here is what we looked like at 5:30 in the morning on July 15th at the airport in Budapest.

Here is what the people that took us to the airport looked like. Thank you Pres. and Sister Smith and the Carpenters.

Here is what it looked like to leave our beautiful Hungary.

Here is what Steve looked like going to meet our family.

Here is what we looked like on Tuesday night
July 16th at 10:00 at night.
Welcome home Elder and Sister Flammer

The Mighty Hunter

Since it has become warmer this last week Steve has assumed his role of protector.

The other night we had over twenty mosquitoes on our bedroom ceiling.

The mosquitoes are much larger and have a louder buzz than last year. They had just sprayed the day before. I guess they were coming in to cleaner air. I don't know what happened to this last picture but I do know that I feel safe sleeping now. It is cool to click on this picture so that you can see it is not an easy thing to step on our bed.

Last time visits

We have so many interesting and beautiful things to see in Sopron that we want all the couples serving in Hungary to see them. The Hulberts, who serve in Szeged came for a visit. This is a picture at the Austrian Border.

This shows that they came back to Hungary.

We visited the Mitbras Shrine near the Austrian Border.

It was discovered in 1866 and renovated in 1992.

Because it was so close to the Austrian Border no one was allowed near it during the communist times.

We visited Eva's garden. We never tire of seeing the beautiful gardens here.

We took what seemed like a much longer walk to the highest wooden tower.

It is so beautiful to look out over the landscape.

We can see Austria on three sides.

There is no better way to end the day than with an ice cream cone!

The Heaths stopped by the next day on their way home from Poland where they did some audits.

They wanted to see the Esterhazy Palace in Fertod where we visited Haydn. I am not sure what composition he has in his hand.

We had a great dinner at the Main Square.

This was the view from our table.

We are sure lucky to be able to walk down these cobblestone streets. We will never forget Sopron.

We ended the evening with sparklers saved from Christmas. Happy Fourth of July!

We knew it was gong to be a great day when we saw the sunrise and the Cromars were visiting.

We were also able to share Eva's Garden with them.

This is the kind man that always makes us bouquets of flowers.

We walked to the short tower.

It offers a great view of Sopron.

Once again to Esterhazy. We didn't even have to pay for parking.

It is a great place.

It would be a great place to play hide-n-seek.

I've had a birthday shout hooray!

I was lucky enough to have yet another birthday. Steve surprised me with a birthday grapefruit. I was able to have enough breath to blow out THE candle.

We then went for a birthday walk taking advantage of seeing the beautiful sites of  Sopron.

We found a swing made for older people who can't sit up anymore!

We were able to make it to one of our favorite paths and find our way home.

Some good friends surprised us with a cherry cake and muffins.

When we went to  English Club on the Saturday before my birthday they surprised me with a yummy birthday cake from Austria.

And another cake that had fresh raspberries on it. Both were very delicious.

Eva also learned how to make rolls that days. We had one cake for an appetizer, rolls with strawberry jam for the main course and the last cake for dessert. One should try to have a balanced meal.

If you are going to have a birthday Hungary is a very great place to celebrate it.

Weekend of Towers

Yesterday the young men and young women went on a hike to the wood tower. It ended up being the four missionaries along with Elder Flammer and the branch presidents family. His wife is the yw president and Eldre Flammer works with the young men. I was the designated driver of the food and drinks.

They hiked through the town and past some cool looking statues in Deak Ter.

We like this one of a lion.

Sopron is such a beautiful place.

It is great that they have these towers so everyone can enjoy seeing the city.

After the hike up the 100 stairs and back down we enjoyed a picnic.

Today we drove to another wood tower that is above Sopron.

The mission leader and his family took us there. He is giving Steve some good missionary advise.

Battle on the logs.

It was so beautiful and well worth the walk to get to it.

We could see the first wood tower from this one and also the Neusiedler See (lake).

I did ok as long as I looked out and not down. This family was having a picnic.

We could see several villages in Austria

I think they call this a bird's eye view.

We saw a couple of butterflies and had some finom (delicious) treats.

What a perfect day.

The walk back to the cars was very beautiful.

I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world and feel very lucky to see this part.
